Over the following decades, the Company accumulated a valuable fund of know-how in the manufacture of synthetic fibers and resins, and in recent years we have leveraged our resultant expertise in polymer technology to move into the booming high-tech fields of hollow-fiber membranes, plastic optical fibers, and carbon fibers, among others. Today, the Mitsubishi Rayon Group has built itself into a leading manufacturer of polymer products, based on two core segments -- the MMA (methyl methacrylate) and AN (acrylonitrile) business complexes.The principal goal of the Mitsubishi Rayon Group is to register consistent long-term growth characterized by high earnings (in terms of the ratio of operating income to sales). To this end, we will be carefully focusing the investment of our management resources in key areas with the objective of simultaneously realizing both growth in operational scale and improved earnings.Our first major goal is to develop our acrylic business complexes on a global scale, and to become the undisputed No. 1 in this field.Our second major goal is to optimally leverage our proprietary materials and technology to build new core businesses that will be second only to our acrylics operations.A company can only earn the trust of the public by acting as a responsible corporate citizen. Without a reputation for trustworthiness, no company can long survive. We keep this fact in mind in the conduct of day-to-day business activities, and have positioned corporate ethics and legal compliance as top-priority management issues. We are also making steady progress in addressing environmental issues, including the establishment of effective environmental management systems, the reduction of the amount of substances that place a load on the environment, and the adoption of environmental accounting.
